Daily rent has skyrocketed!Offshore wind power installation ship is in emergency

Mar,22,2024 << Return list

According to data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), globally, offshore wind power installed capacity is expected to increase fivefold between 2022 and 2035, and offshore wind turbines are also gradually becoming larger, which means that there is a need for large-scale offshore wind turbines to be installed. The demand for ships is also increasing. However, the current fleet expansion is not fast enough.

Clarksons Offshore Renewables estimates that there are 15 to 20 ships outside of China capable of installing offshore wind turbines with a single capacity of no less than 15MW, and more will be needed in the coming years. Wood Mackenzie stated that there are currently about 40 installation vessels operating outside of China, but not all vessels are dedicated to offshore wind power. To meet future demand, WoodMac is expected to invest approximately $14.8 billion (equivalent to approximately RMB 106.529 billion) in building ships, but so far, only about one-third of the actual investment in this field has been made.

It is understood that the installation process of offshore wind turbines is very complicated.First, the components of the wind turbine must be carefully loaded onto the ship. The tower and blades can be more than 100 meters long, and the engine room is about the size of a villa.Once the transport vessel reaches the turbine installation point, these components must be disassembled and assembled. In the end, the installation of just one offshore wind turbine took approximately three days.
